Anonymous Donor Helps Dozens of Veterans

Today, we want to share a very special “Case of the Week” from our Grayson KY office as told by Regional Manager, Ray Layne.

Anonymous Donor Helps Dozens of Veterans

Wednesday, March 11, 2020, seemed like any other day; nothing that really stood out; nothing exciting: and then a phone call changed everything about that day. A phone call from a veteran who I barely remember talking to in the past. The anonymous person (by choice) just asked a few questions. Is this Veterans’ Outreach? Do you have a food pantry and offer assistance for Veterans? Could you use a food donation? Will it go to Veterans in need? How many do you help in a week?

After a brief discussion of response….a date was set to meet and purchase food for the food pantry in our Grayson office.  It was only when we met and were going through the line that I came to realize the impact of the generosity – seven buggies of non-perishable food at a cost of $1,000.00!!

I stand amazed at how good and fast things can change around.  The difference one person can make to help so many.  The veterans that will receive very needed help; especially in light of the virus and its’ impact upon our economy now.

Thank GOD for immediate friends, who are willing to go and SHOW that miracles do happen. Take heart! Hang on! Keep doing the work! Our efforts are being rewarded!

WE DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

GROW NOT WEARY IN WELL DOING.

PASS ALONG THE GOOD NEWS.

Veteran Keeps Clean Payment Record

Today, we’d like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota FL office, as written by Bob Graham, Regional Manager.

Veteran Keeps Clean Payment Record

A local veteran called our Florida office to request much-needed help.  His daughter had died some six weeks ago and he had been so wrapped up in covering final expenses and other allied requirements that he had run out of money.

On the advice of his VA caseworker, he called us to say that he had covered the past due but had no prospect of paying the most recent utility bill.  Veterans’ Outreach stepped in and paid the bill.  He has contacted us several times to reiterate how much it meant to him to have a clean payments slate.

Advocate Helps Veteran with Fresh Start

Today, we’d like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Hartselle Alabama office.

Advocate Helps Veteran with Fresh Start

A Veterans’ Outreach team member has become an Advocate for a “Brother” in the service of our country, in a very good way.  This Brother Veteran had fallen into homelessness through a series of misfortune, often prodded on by flashbacks from his time in the service.

Our Advocate is helping this Veteran get started in life again.  Veterans’ Outreach was able to assist with some much needed clothing and food.  We will continue to offer support in any we can to help this Veteran achieve a comfortable independent lifestyle.

VETERANS SHARE A MEAL SPONSORED BY LOCAL CHURCHES

Today, we would like to share a recent event held at our Grayson KY office to  celebrate Valentine’s Day.

VETERANS SHARE A MEAL SPONSORED BY LOCAL CHURCHES

The Grayson office hosted a group of eighteen for a Valentine’s Day Dinner on February 13, 2020.  Eight local churches assisted in making this a great event for our servicemen. A dinner of roasted chicken, seasoned potatoes, sauteed fresh garden vegetables, salad, roll, desert, coffee, tea, sparkling and regular water: made for a great meal.  We appreciate all those that volunteered their time, energy, and finances to make this event possible.

Each event allows further awareness of our services for veterans, continued building of our contacts in the community, and has increased our local membership to eighty, up from fifteen since before these events began.  How thankful we are for our veterans and their service.

Veteran Mom Threatened With Power Shut-off  Notice

This week, we would like to share a “Case of the Week” from Bob, our Regional Manager of the Sarasota Florida office.

Veteran Mom Threatened With Power Shut-off  Notice

Our office was contacted by a VA case manager.  Her client has recently had a baby, along with a couple of small children but had to miss work for a few days because of the flu (not the Corona virus!). While she is trying to make the best of her post-service career, the resultant loss of income meant that she fell behind on her power bill, and is now threatened with a shut down.  Worried about her baby’s health, her case manager contacted us for help and we stepped in to cover the bill.
