VFW POST 3767 HOSTS FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY

Veterans’ Outreach recently attended a Flag Retirement Ceremony hosted by Hubbard VFW Post 6737.  We brought hundreds of flags that had been given to us over the last several months for proper disposal.

It was a cold and rainy evening with frequent wind gusts, but that didn’t dampen the ceremony.  It was a beautiful experience; thoughtful, respectful, and patriotic.  We commend the organizers and we thank them.  If you love the flag and all that it stands for, attend a Flag Retirement Ceremony.

VETERAN OVERCOMES EVICTION

A female veteran came to Veterans’ Outreach because she was being evicted.  She was distraught and really didn’t know which way to turn.  Her financial problems resulted from a job loss.  We were able to talk to the landlord and pay a portion of the rent to stop the eviction.   We also offered her employment leads from our employer partners looking to hire veterans.

VETERAN NEEDED NEW CAR BATTERY

A veteran came to our office, only to find out that he had a dead battery.  He needed to get back and forth to job sites and doctor appointments.  He was pretty shook up, with concern of how he could afford a new battery, and if he would be stranded.  Veterans’ Outreach we was able to get the car started and make it to the auto parts store where we purchased a new battery for him and they installed it.

FEMALE VETERAN EXPERIENCES UTILITY SHUT OFF

Today, we would like to spotlight one of the most common requests that we encounter in our work of helping veterans.  There are many veterans that have problems keeping their utilities on.  The reasons vary, for example, a female veteran asked for help to get her utilities turned back on.  She had experienced a lot of medical problems and had gotten behind to the point of shut off.  We were able to negotiate with the utility company to get it back on and pay the bill.  It seems like a simple thing, but it isn’t when it happens to you.  It becomes overwhelming and hard to solve.  We are here to help veterans navigate their troubles.
