Veteran Suffering from PTSD Connects Flare Ups with Intense Battles

Today, we would like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Hartselle, Alabama office as told by Mike, Regional Event Coordinator for that office.

Veteran Suffering from PTSD Connects Flare Ups with Intense Battles

I took veteran over to the local VA hospital who was having a particularly hard time with a PTSD flare up. His next appointment was for 3 more months and he wanted to get an earlier appointment which he secured.  On the way we were talking about why at certain times PTSD seems to get worse.  I wondered if the subconscious knew what the conscious didn’t.

I asked if there was a particular bad incident that occurred in December when he was in Afghanistan. We talked with his First Sergeant who checked his battle book and it turned out that there was some fierce fighting in December. My question to our followers is if they can check and see if veterans suffering from PTSD symptoms worsen on corresponding dates from past battles. I know it won’t cure PTSD but it might help soldiers and loved ones to be more aware and prepared for flare ups.  Thanks for the help.

Collaboration of Efforts Benefits Veteran

Today, we’d like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota FL office.

(This case is a very good example of how our programs work synergistically with other agencies to develop the best solutions for veterans.)

A local female vet has been down on her luck – no job,  no income, facing shutdown on her electricity bill.  On the advice of the local Veteran Service Officer, she contacted us.  We called the provider, guaranteed the outstanding bill – meantime, she starts a job in the next few days and will have INCOME.  She is  very excited and very grateful to Veterans’ Outreach for stepping in during her hour of need!

Veteran’s Tensions Relieved

Today, we would like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota FL office as told by Bob Graham, Florida’s Regional Manager.

Veteran’s Tensions Relieved

A veteran behind in his utility bill appealed to the Sarsota office for help.  With chronic congenital heart failure, intensified by seizures, he’s unable to work and has fallen behind on his bills.  We stepped in and guaranteed payment to the local utility.  He tells us that this relieved him of a lot of tension he didn’t need, and he feels much better!

Solution for Distraught Disabled Veteran

Today, we want to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota Florida office as told by our Regional Manager Bob Graham.

Solution for Distraught Disabled Veteran
The Sarasota office was contacted by a veteran who is a single mother – one child 2, the other just turned 5 – and discovered Veterans’ Outreach through dialing 211.  She is 100% disabled and has no credit background.  Because of that, she was charged a very high startup fee by her utility company.  The veteran suffers from PTSD and is a victim of MST (Military Sexual Trauma).  She had difficulty managing the large payment and it has set her back on her regular utility bill which is now 2 months behind.  We immediately covered as much as we could and also referred her to other veteran support services.
