Today, we would like to share a “Case of the Week” from our Hartselle, Alabama office as told by Mike, Regional Event Coordinator for that office.
Veteran Suffering from PTSD Connects Flare Ups with Intense Battles
I took veteran over to the local VA hospital who was having a particularly hard time with a PTSD flare up. His next appointment was for 3 more months and he wanted to get an earlier appointment which he secured. On the way we were talking about why at certain times PTSD seems to get worse. I wondered if the subconscious knew what the conscious didn’t.
I asked if there was a particular bad incident that occurred in December when he was in Afghanistan. We talked with his First Sergeant who checked his battle book and it turned out that there was some fierce fighting in December. My question to our followers is if they can check and see if veterans suffering from PTSD symptoms worsen on corresponding dates from past battles. I know it won’t cure PTSD but it might help soldiers and loved ones to be more aware and prepared for flare ups. Thanks for the help.
