VETERAN HAS NIGHTLY NIGHTMARES FROM IRAQ DEPLOYMENT

A local veteran visited our office, seeking whatever assistance we could provide.  He is under treatment for severe PTSD, and his wife has just left him – saying she could no longer live with his sleeping habits.  He told us that he falls asleep for a couple of hours, then awakens every night because of nightmares of Iraqi battles he had lived through, and roams the house to fight off his demons.

His wife took all of his funds, leaving him with less than $25 in cash and his car – his mood swings have cost him whatever jobs he has managed to get so far, and he has insufficient money to buy food and get gas to continue his job search and therapy.  We helped him on some food and gas purchasing  to get him back on his feet and to the treatments for the PTSD, then hopefully to start rebuilding his life!

Veterans Landlord Causes Water Shut Off

Today, we want to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota FL office.

Veterans Landlord Causes Water Shut Off

A veteran that was just released from the VA Hospital contacted us, explaining and documenting that his water bill is included in the monthly rent and then is to be paid by the landlord (though billed to the renter) – not an uncommon practice in Florida.

But the landlord failed to cover the water bill as required, and it was shut off.  We assisted him on properly contacting the landlord, and paid the outstanding amount to promptly ensure his water.

Agency’s Referral Helps Veteran with Breathing Problems

Today, we want to share a “Case of the Week” from our Sarasota FL office.

Agency’s Referral Helps Veteran with Breathing Problems

A veteran from the other side of the state was told by his VA case manager to contact us as the fastest responder in case of real need.  The vet had been discharged from the local VA hospital after severe sleep apnea and other breathing issues.  During his absence and lacking sufficient financial resources, he found his power had been cut off, required for his C-pac for the Sleep Apnea (as well as for Florida heat!).  We contacted the power company, arranged payment and power was back on within 4 hours.

Veteran Suffering from PTSD is Inspiration to Fellow Veterans

Today, we want to share a “Case of the Week” from our Hartselle AL office.

Veteran Suffering from PTSD is Inspiration to Fellow Veterans

A veteran came to us for help.  He was having a hard time getting hired by a local high paying factory.  He said that he was running into trouble because he had been honest with them and told them that he has P.T.S.D.

We contacted the corporate Doctor with a letter explaining that P.T.S.D. was not just a military issue, but it is a societal issue as well. Battered spouses, bullying, just to name a few.  I explained that they had probably hired people with undiagnosed P.T.S.D. and that this former soldier was doing well and was being helped by the VA.  We told them that we would vouch for him.

Thankfully, they did hire him and we are sure that he is an asset to the company and he is still doing well.
