Season’s Blessings

Our branch office in Grayson, KY has been so busy and so blessed! We rely heavily on our volunteers and our communities to keep our life-changing work going. Volunteers are worth their weight in gold! If you have free time, come by one of our offices and help out! There are always things to be done! Recently, Save A Lot in Grayson, KY donated 230 food bags for our Freedom Food Pantry. This is huge for the veteran community. This means they will keep food on their tables and in their bellies this holiday season. The gentleman in the photos is one of our favorite volunteers. He is a veteran and he is always around the office, helping with anything that needs to be done. We are so grateful for him! Thank you Bob and thank you Save A Lot!

Acts of Kindness

Recently at our branch office in Grayson, KY, our wonderful team really made a difference to women and families in need. They were chatting with an employee from a homeless shelter for battered families and discovered that there are some families staying there with multiple children that are in desperate need. The employee continued that they genuinely need donations of everything. So, without hesitation, they loaded both of their vehicles up and delivered totes full of clothes, household items, and toys. We don’t have photos of the experience to protect the identities of the individuals staying there. But, in accordance with how wonderful the Grayson team is, one woman there at the shelter kept commenting on our regional manager’s necklace and how much she loved it. So, before she left, she gave that sweet woman her necklace. She burst into tears of joy and exchanged multiple hugs of gratefulness. “It was such a joy to help someone through the bad times and through the holidays.”

“Heart” of a Lion

“Heart” of a Lion

A wonderful gentleman that’s a veteran out of Georgia called our branch office in Grayson, KY, and desperately needed help. His truck broke down in Ashland, KY on his way to Colorado to get a transfusion. Amazingly, only 24% of his heart works. Even more amazing than that is that he died for 26 minutes and 17 seconds on June 26th, 2017 leaving him with a Traumatic Brain Injury. He spent all his money fixing his truck to get him to his life-saving treatment and had nothing left to finish getting him to the Hospital in Colorado. He said no matter what life throws at him he will survive and get through it. We got him a $200.00 visa to help him with his journey to a better heart. He is 72 years old. How incredibly brave of him to make this trip alone and in the condition he is in. He was so grateful for what we did for him and amazed by all the great things we do for Veterans.

NORTHCOAST MIATA CLUB HOSTS “SOUPTEMBER” DRIVE

The Northcoast Miata Club hosted a soup drive for Veterans’ Outreach Freedom Food Pantry in September.  They called it “Souptember”, clever, isn’t it?

Todd and Dee Tannehill took the lead on this project and really put their hearts into it.  They collected 150 cans of soup.  They decided they wanted to do more, so they contacted Cascade Auto Group from Cuyahoga Falls.  Cascade Auto Group made a donation that allowed Todd and Dee to purchase another 150 cans of soup!

This is the time of year when soup is really appreciated.  Many veterans live on fixed incomes and are struggling with food insecurity.  The Freedom Food Pantry Program is there when veterans need it and now it is well stocked with soup!

Thank you, Northcoast Miata Club members!

Right Place at the Right Time

Our Veterans’ Outreach branch office in Hartselle, AL received a wonderful donation from the Elk’s Club in Decatur, AL. They donated some wonderful hygiene items and non-perishables that we are so grateful for. This has not been an easy year, especially for veterans in need. Every donation counts and this donation came right at the right time.

Having community support from individuals and groups like this one is what keeps us going every single day. Without you, there is no tomorrow. Thank you Elk’s Club and everyone involved in pulling together this wonderful donation for our veterans in need.

ABATE MEMBERS HOST POKER RUN FOR VETERANS

ABATE MEMBERS HOST POKER RUN FOR VETERANS

For 8 years in a row, ABATE Region Zero, has held a Poker Run to benefit veterans.  It all started with a lovely volunteer named Ellen.  She reached out to ABATE and made friends which resulted in the first event.  Since then, their support has helped many veterans in crisis facing situations that have overwhelmed them.

Each year, it is a run that is fun!  Many of the riders have been participating since the first one.  They hold a 50/50 and a basket raffle, all organized by volunteers.

Thank you, ABATE members!

Good Ol’ Fashioned Fun in Kentucky

Our Veterans’ Outreach branch office in Grayson, KY hosted a “Trunk or Treat” at their location on 10.28.22. However, it wasn’t just your normal trunk or treat. They had games and lots of wonderful hometown comradery.

It was a terrific event with a spin on old-fashioned fun. The event was such a success, they even ran out of candy! They quickly ran out to the store to ensure there weren’t any disappointed trunk-or-treaters.

This wasn’t just about candy or decorations, this was truly an event that brought the Grayson community even closer together. We are so thankful for such a wonderful team at our Grayson office. They always go above and beyond the call. Congratulations on a terrific event! Lots of happy kids and adults alike!

VETERANS SUPPORT RECOVERY FROM HURRICANE IAN

VETERANS SUPPORT RECOVERY FROM HURRICANE IAN

Veterans’ Outreach is always seeking solutions for veterans’ problems.  Thankfully, our office in Pinellas Park, Florida was not harmed by Hurricane Ian.  Our team there has been tirelessly working to provide assistance to veterans that suffered loss from the wrath of Ian.

Recently, a great opportunity to help from the north came by way of a like-minded agency called Veterans Haven.  They decided to hold a clothing drive and take the load to Florida.  Veterans’ Outreach was able to provide more than a dozen LARGE bags of clothing and several cases of hand sanitizer.

We are grateful to the generous clothing donors and to Veterans Haven for helping us to help the veterans affected by Ian.  Safe travels to Veterans Haven.

OHIO FLAGS OF HONOR CLOSES WITH HONOR.

OHIO FLAGS OF HONOR CLOSES WITH HONOR

Veterans’ Outreach hosted an Ohio Flags of Honor event in 2018.  It was a wonderful experience.  The traveling memorial honored fallen soldiers from Ohio since the war on terror began.  It was a weekend event.  On Friday morning, they arrived with their 895 flags and precisely planted flag holders in the ground with great care regarding spacing.  300 of those flags represented Ohio soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  The rest of the flags had been donated by supporters.

Friday evening hosted a beautiful ceremony that brought recognition and honor to every one of the fallen.  Their names were read, a bell was rung, and the flag was carried to its resting place for the weekend.  There was music to accompany the event that was somber and inspiring.

The flags were left on display for the rest of the weekend for visitors to read the names of the fallen on the flagpoles.  On Sunday, there was a short ceremony and then a 300-helium balloon release to close the ceremony.

Ohio Flags of Honor held dozens of events across Ohio for many years and have now decided to close the organization.  Veterans’ Outreach hosted a final event a few days ago.  Gold Star families were given the flag that bears their loved one’s name.  The pain and loss don’t ever go away, but those flags really meant something to the families, and they were well received.

Thank you, Ohio Flags of Honor.

VETERAN AND FAMILY BECOME HOMELESS.

VETERAN AND FAMILY BECOME HOMELESS

A veteran recently came to Veterans’ Outreach with a very serious problem.  A series of negative events led to he, his wife, mother-in-law, and daughter becoming homeless.  They both lost their jobs, basically due to health issues.

We were able to load them up with food from the Freedom Food Pantry and get them into a long stay motel, and referral for employment.

If not for generous donors, and foundation grants, we could not do these things for veterans in need.  Thank you to all that have stepped up to keep Veterans’ Outreach a reliable resource for veterans.
