Stranded Veteran Gets a Ride Home
A veteran found himself stranded about 40 miles from his home. He hadn’t visited with his birth family for a long time and had agreed to attend a family gathering. As the event went on, the family had some upsetting situations and the veteran left. He left in spite of the fact that he had no ride home.
He walked from place to place, trying to figure out what to do. He was short on funds and had no phone. He tried to get a bus ticket from several agencies, but no one could help. This went on for a few days, as he temporarily stayed at a shelter. Then he showed up at Veterans’ Outreach.
We gave him rest in our lobby, food and drink, and arranged for a taxi to take him home. The relief on his face was priceless.
